LED หรือไดโอดเปล่งแสง (light-emitting diode หรือย่อว่า LED) เป็นอุปกรณ์สารกึ่งตัวนำอย่างหนึ่ง จัดอยู่ในจำพวกไดโอด ที่สามารถเปล่งแสงในช่วงสเปกตรัมแคบ แสงที่เปล่งออกมาประกอบด้วยคลื่นความถี่เดียวและเฟสต่อเนื่องกัน

เป็นค่าที่บ่งบอกความขาวของแสงที่ได้จากหลอดไฟ ว่ามีโทนสีเป็นเช่นไร มีหน่วยวัดเป็น “เคลวิน (K”) โดยแสงที่มีค่าเคลวินต่ำจะให้แสงขาวโทนอุ่น เช่น หลอดไส้ให้แสงที่อุณหภูมิสีของแสงในช่วง 2700-3000 เคลวิน ในขณะที่แสงที่มีค่าเคลวินสูงจะให้แสงขาวโทนเย็น เช่น หลอดฟลูออเรสเซนต์ตามบ้านจะให้แสงที่มีอุณหภูมิของแสงในช่วง 5000-6500 เคลวิน เป็นต้น
